Wheel Of Time MMO

Big news came out today that Red Eagle Entertainment has created Red Eagle Games who will be making games based upon Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time series, including an MMORPG. I for one am extremely excited as I have been a huge fan of that series and had hoped that they would eventually make an MMO based upon the world. Hopefully they keep it true to the WoT lore and dont mess it up to “fit the mechanics of the game”. Only time will tell though. Here are a few links covering the announcement. Enjoy!

 The Horrible “New” iGoogle

http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2008/10/whats-new-with-igoogle.html

Well they have publicly launched the new igoogle which for me and many others, we had all ready experienced this hell in beta. Most everyone who was beta testing it hated it and yet they launched it anyways… Apparently they just dont want to listen or dont care. I think Google figures it will shove this crap down our throats until we accept it or go elsewhere. As a temporary fix you can set your google to one of the many cctld google domains such as .ca, .ie, etc. Of course, they said they were going to eventually port it to other countries, so they will all eventually be a big steaming pile of igoogle crap. Anyways, since they probably wont do ever country at one time, here is a list of alternate google.tld’s you can switch to. Enjoy!

http://www.google.co.uk/ig
http://www.google.ca/ig
http://www.google.ie/ig
http://www.google.fr/ig?hl=en (the ?hl=en sets the site to english for the most part.)
http://www.google.tw/ig?hl=en
http://www.google.de/ig?hl=en
http://www.google.ch/ig?hl=en
http://www.google.dk/ig?hl=en
http://www.google.es/ig?hl=en
http://www.google.hn/ig?hl=en
http://www.google.it/ig?hl=en
http://www.google.nl/ig?hl=en
http://www.google.se/ig?hl=en
http://www.google.ru/ig?hl=en

I think thats most of them. There may be some that are Third level Domains beyond .co.uk but meh, this should be enough to last for a while. Anyways, if there are some I forgot, feel free to leave a comment. Thanks.

 Champions Online Closed Beta Signup

From the official site:

Players get to test the new comic book styled action MMO for the first time

Los Gatos, CA – October 10, 2008 – Cryptic Studios™ announced today that players can now sign up for a chance to participate in the first closed beta for Champions Online™, an action massively multiplayer online game (MMOG) slated for release in the spring of 2009. This PC specific beta begins in mid-November 2008 and players sign up by visiting http://www.champions-online.com/preview_application.

“This closed beta is an exciting step in the evolution of Champions Online,” said Jack Emmert, chief creative officer for Cryptic Studios. “All of us here in the Cryptic offices have been playing the game for a while now, and we’re excited to invite others in to have as much fun with Champions Online as we’ve been having internally.”

Champions Online gives players the power of total customization for their hero experience while they explore a vast comic book universe. Gamers create their hero’s name, back story, costume, powers and abilities as well as design their own personal nemesis and his or her back story, which will guarantee a truly unique experience.

Champions Online is being developed by Cryptic Studios as a cross-platform project including PC and current gen console systems, and is published by 2K Games, the publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ:TTWO).

Wow, closed beta all ready. They just announced the game like last February. Good to see the game has progressed so well that they feel it is ready for clsoed beta now. Hopefully I can get into beta to start testing it and to help make it a better super hero mmo then CoH/CoV was. Click the link in the quoted text to get to the beta application page. Enjoy!

 A Week In WAR

As the first official week of the retail release of Warhammer Online comes to a close, I thought I would share my views and opinion of the game thus far. Having been in beta for over a year I knew what to expect so all I really had to look forward to come release, was polish, bug fixes, content additions, and server population.

The game has definitely gotten a lot more polished in the last few weeks of beta and release. Graphically speaking the game may have similarities to WoW but has taken it several steps further to provide a more detailed visual experience. It may not be as realistic as some other games but this is Warhammer and Warhammer has always been more about fantasy then reality. Hopefully they will continue fine-tuning the graphics and include some more animations for our characters to make use of, such as a sitting function…

While there are probably several small insignificant bugs in WAR I tend to ignore those as they really don’t effect gameplay and I could really care less if it was something like a period was used in place of a comma in this quest text or whatever. Most of the major bugs have been fixed that I have noticed through beta with the exception of the Crash to Desktop bug. I sure hope they figure out what is causing that and either fix it on their end or let us know what could be causing it on our end.

Its only been a week so I wasnt expecting any new content. Hopefully though we will see some regular updates such as a return of the 4 lost classes and the return of the other capital cities within the coming months. Personally I hope the Choppa comes back sooner rather then later.

All I can say about server population is WoW. I knew the game would be popular but I didnt think it would be that popular at release. I figured it would be a couple months as word of mouth traveled around and people started trying it out through a trial or friends account. I am happy to see the servers full of players at all hours of the day. I only wish they could beef up the server limits so that everyone can play without waiting for the damn queues. I play on Phoenix Throne and man that queue is very very long at times.

Overall I would have to say Warhammer Online has been the best gaming experience I have had since Everquest. I had thought that enjoyment of playing an online game was lost when I failed to enjoy other MMOs such as WoW, EQ2, Lotro, etc.. Wether you are a casual gamer, or PvPer, or someone who likes to grind, you should definitely play Warhammer. About the only thing Warhammer is lacking is raid content. With the exception of raiding capital cities, you wont ever have any raid content in Warhammer as the developer didnt wanted the game to be more focused on group content. I for one prefer group over raid but thats just me. Anyways, I hope everyone else is enjoying WAR as much as I am and see you all in game. Enjoy!

Warhammer 40k: Space Marine Video Leak

It appears that an Alpha video for an upcoming console/pc game Warhammer 40k: Space Marine was “leaked” today. Of course we all know leaked is just a marketing term trying to hype a game by releasing teaser footage. It is in alpha so remember that when you watch it. For alpha though, I think its pretty impressive and I cant wait to see more. Anyways, here is a current link that may or may not be around for much longer. If it does disappear, remember that google is your friend. Enjoy!
